Volunteering at the HR Florida State Conference is a great way to meet new HR colleagues, expand your network, and give back to the HR community! There are many volunteer needs, including bag stuffing, room moderating, and supporting larger gatherings such as overseeing the lunch process and welcoming guests in to general sessions! Not able to volunteer during the conference days? We also have volunteer opportunities on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evenings.
2020 Positions Descriptions
Serve as a welcoming resource to Speakers and Attendees. Maintain headcounts and report number to Volunteer Room. Ensure that room capacity is not exceeded. Serve as runners, hall monitors and couriers of materials. Crowd management skills helpful.
Expo Hall Door Greeter
Greet attendees, assist with directional information, encourage attendance at the various HRFL events, and help answer any questions that arise. Volunteers must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Greet attendees, check-in to conference using computer terminal. Provide attendee bag, assist with directional information, encourage attendance at the various HRFL events, and help answer any questions that arise. Volunteers must be comfortable with computers.
Assist the Expo Hall team in assembling 2,400 attendee bags. (This is a great opportunity if your spouse and/or children want to assist.)
Book Signing Support
Ensure attendees have book to be signed and are in a single file line, answer questions from attendees or speaker(s) and assist attendees by moving the line through the book signing process. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
SHRM Bookstore/ SHRM Bookstore Set-Up Or Breakdown
SHRM Bookstore/ SHRM Bookstore Set-Up Or Breakdown It is preferred that Book Store Volunteers sign-up for at least 2 shifts in the Bookstore due to the amount of training required. Assist with setup and breakdown of the store. Assist store operations by assisting attendees with information and product location, speaker book signings, and stocking inventory. Assist with packing up the store at the conclusion of the conference. The greatest need for volunteers is during both setup and tear down. Volunteers must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Volunteers must be able to lift boxes up to 25 lbs.
Welcome Team / Registration Greeters / Information Kiosks
Key role in greeting attendees, provide direction to key points throughout the designated conference area (bathrooms, speaker locations, expo hall), encourage attendance at the various HRFL events, help answer any questions that arise and direct attendee traffic. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Evening Entertainment Support
Serve as Ambassadors at our nighttime entertainment events. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, maintain an upbeat, energized and fun attitude. Positions will be assigned based on the needs of the event. Positions may include verifying credentials, collecting donations for charity, and serving as ushers. Ensure a safe environment with direction from HRFL Conference Team. Training and information is provided the afternoon of the event and volunteers are able to enjoy the show.
Lunch Operations Support
Utilize scanners to scan attendees into lunch line, direct attendees through the lunch line and answer questions. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
General Session Greeter
Welcome attendees, ensure each attendee is wearing a HR Florida registration lanyard, and answer questions. Additionally, may serve as Usher or other General Session support. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Speaker Check In Support
Provide support to the Programs team by checking speakers in, highlight speaker location and answer questions. This is primarily a sitting position and at times, volunteer may be the only individual in the speaker room.
5K Check-In And Course Monitors
Assist with 5K Check-in at hotel. Additional volunteers will spread out over course and monitor turns and intersections. Monitors help runners stay on course and maintain course safety during the event. Volunteers must have cell phones available at all times during event. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Assist the Charity Team with support and various fundraising activities throughout conference. Great for volunteers with a cheerleader spirit and mission driven mindset. Volunteer must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
